The goal of the homeowner was to create a home that would honor the past architecture and fabric of its historic neighborhood. This craftsman bungalow focused on recreating historical elements throughout, starting with hand-crafted tapered columns and painted lap siding at the front porch. The classic details include thick trim and warm wood tones, while hints of color add charm throughout. An open floor plan and an abundance of windows allow light to be maximized throughout the main living spaces of the home.
One challenge of the home was working within the physical constraints of an established, historical neighborhood and small lot. The design team used this as an opportunity to appreciate the neighborhood by respectfully building appropriate to scale.
The contractor and subcontractors worked together to be resourceful with their implementation and provide minimal disruption to this active and connected neighborhood. After the home was framed and throughout finishing, many subcontractors and vendors assumed this home was a renovation project. This was a great compliment and encouragement to the team members, who hoped the project would spawn revitalization of other homes in the area.
