Our Home of the Week is a Best in American Living Gold winner in Remodeling, Modern Day Tudor in Dunwoody, Ga.
The original kitchen was too small and compartmentalized, the family room was too large and closed off from the kitchen, and the loft area above the kitchen was underutilized. Finally, the master suite, laundry and powder bath also did not serve the family’s needs.
The entire first floor was changed to create a fully functional plan by removing the kitchen wall separating the family as well as the loft space above, making one large, open space. Dual islands serve both as working and eating spaces. Two new pantries, a huge refrigerator/freezer and a 48-inch range finish out the space. The laundry was relocated to the second floor in the au pair’s suite and the master bath and closet reworked to make a more functional space. Random width and hand-scraped hardwood were added to both the first floor and entire second floor.
