Located on the waterfront of the Kiawah River development, this 9,000-square-foot swim club is the community’s gathering place, with a junior Olympic-sized family pool and an adult pool, a spa with a shaded tiki bar and a full-service kitchen. The Spring House offers residents programming that caters to a variety of preferences for health, fitness and recreation.
Additionally, the ground floor features an event/dining space, cabanas, a hot tub, an outdoor fireplace and a lower deck overlooking the river. The downstairs interiors feature a Lowcountry-inspired palette of greens and blues, and the upstairs event space features light earth tones inspired by the Kiawah River’s landscape. The second level includes men’s and women’s locker rooms with saunas, steam rooms and state-of-the-art fitness equipment.
The primary challenge of the design was fitting such a significant amount of programming into a small space on a narrow parcel of land, so the future user would experience the best views of the Kiawah River while also providing the appropriate utility services and parking to support the facility. Since it was constructed in a Coastal A Zone, the builder had to install a trip wall and wet flood proofing on the ground floor to meet FEMA building codes.
