This community gathering area is a five-minute walk from 65 percent of homes. A natural surface trail system connects each home directly with this central community amenity center, encouraging residents to enjoy nature and recreation as part of their journey. The Aspen House is strategically located in an area where two ecosystems naturally meet; as part of a conservation-based community, this site takes advantage of a passive solar system and introduces native plants from both ecosystems in a seamless design.

Outdoor amenities were designed to complement and avoid disrupting the topography and tree cover. A firepit sits a short walk away, surrounded by an enchanting aspen grove. The year-round pool and hot tubs are nestled into the hillside so that both the building and amenities follow the natural topography of the surrounding grades. The outdoor area flows inside in a natural progression that mimics native patterns. Inside, the design takes advantage of expansive views, bringing visitors eye-level with the surrounding aspen tree canopies. Interior amenities include event space, a catering kitchen, gym and wellness center, business center, den, library and recreation room.

From the Judges
The judges praised the architecture and scale of the building. They noted its simple shapes and clean lines, how it spreads across the site and fits with the region. The inside is warm and welcoming, and the courtyard and pool feel secluded.
