The Legend was designed to be a focal point of the project, with considerations of both the neighborhood surrounding the redevelopment and the preserved church building on site. Called an Urban Home, The Legend sits on a compact .06 acre lot. The three-story, detached single-family home is 2,250 sf of heated living area with 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a 2-car garage, contemporary styling and a cedar fenced front yard. The Legend offered a premium wraparound second-story steel balcony accessed via wrap-around 8 tall multi-panel sliding doors that created an exceptional expansive indoor-outdoor space.
The design of the home had strong midcentury influences, including custom steel railings inspired by the Mondrian windows of the church, steel post/frame to create a distinctive balcony, as well as stacked brick columns that frame the entrance, and an asymmetrical roof form tat mimics the preserved church building on site. A wing wall with a bank of windows brings natural light to the stairwell. Inside, the ceilings defined the areas and a reverse tray was used to bring some coziness to the kitchen that features a backsplash tiled to the ceiling, which accentuates the expansiveness.
