Approaching the property, the home appears to be perched on the wall of the canyon, giving a first impression of an eagle’s nest. Excavation exposed SUV-sized boulders, eliminating the need for invasive concrete retaining walls. Clean angular design of the residence provides contrast to the rugged desert. Once inside, the great room’s angular lines in the walls and ceiling soffits continue the design philosophy. The central fireplace location brings back the old tradition, rather than being part of a TV wall. Its floor-to-ceiling natural stone adds warmth, as does tongue-and-groove wood ceiling segments.
The floor plan is multi-level, a few steps at a time between rooms, to match the natural topology. Hallways connecting the great room to the primary suite, bedrooms, office, exercise room, and garage are lined with window walls. The primary suite and its spa-like bath also have window walls, enabling breathtaking, yet very secluded views. The patio roof is supported by one slender steel column to provide essentially unobstructed site lines. Views abound from inside and out.
