The primary objective of this project was to relocate the kitchen, which was in a back corner of the home with very few windows. It was moved to the existing dining room space because of its proximity to the new dining room, access to the patio, and stunning views. This allowed for expansion of the original kitchen and creation of a neighboring hearth room, as well as a much-needed catering kitchen.
Base cabinets in this space were finished in claro walnut, while the island was done in a warm white, both topped with a porcelain, marble-look countertop. To maintain the location of the windows, traditional upper cabinets were eliminated. The claro walnut was carried up the wall to enhance the high ceilings and was wrapped around into the hearth room to unify the two spaces. The juxtaposition of a bright white color palette with mixed textural and smooth elements created the perfect balance of mountain contemporary design.
