A timeless elevation belies the completely current floor plan beyond the stately façade. Indoor-outdoor spaces are immediately apparent, with a large central courtyard animating all the interior gathering spaces and connecting to the covered California room in the rear.

The plan is designed to allow home owners to integrate daily activities with outdoor spaces, be it gathering around the television, cooking in the kitchen, or relaxing in a small group for quiet conversation. This family zone at the center of the home divides when it comes to the bedrooms: a master retreat with private lounge is to the rear and secondary bedrooms and kids’ lounge line up to the front.

From the Judges
The judges liked how the plan opens up and makes good use of the site. They commented that the architect took “a lot more risk” than normal and “did some cool stuff.” They liked the “interesting lighting” and “fun elevation.”
