Home of the Week: Mt. Vernon Residence

The concept was to design an H-pattern plan centering the focus around an outdoor pool and outdoor living spaces. The owners wanted a very transparent home filled with natural light, focusing all or as many rooms as possible toward the rear of the home to maximize views.

The plan keeps the circulation to the front portion of the home while creating outdoor courtyards in the front yard allowing large floor-to-ceiling windows to let the light flow through the home. The main living spaces have directional views toward the front yard courtyards as well as the rear yard pool/loggia spaces.

The exterior of the home is a modern take on the traditional French style architecture. A natural limestone cladding softened with crisp white stucco panels help the black windows punch. The steep pitched roof with 30 swooping overhangs help capture that French style. The entry and rear of the home are highlighted with natural oak timbers. The home is set back on the property, creating an experience while approaching the home.
