And the Judges’ Discretionary Award Goes to…

Trend at Novel Park

This Irvine, California community’s design has contemporary architecture that makes a bold statement and creative floor plan designs target a variety of home buyers. Vibrant color schemes have unique and contrasting accent colors to give individuality to the homes, and a single base color to bring continuity to the community. The tri-pack arrangement attaches the homes only at the garage walls, with no common living walls adjacent to a neighboring unit, creating the livability and feel of an single-family home. It’s these features that impressed the Best in American Living Award judges, earning this project the 2019 Judges’ Discretionary Award for Innovative Site Design.

Open plan interiors maximize the use of space, making smaller floor plans live larger.  The home’s main indoor living space was designed to connect to patios on the fronts of the homes to promote a more social and interactive community, while also providing direct access to private interior yard space.   All the homes have well-appointed kitchens with large islands and lots of storage.  Appropriately sized master suites have five-piece baths and walk-in closets.

Judges commented that it was a great use of space from a site design level, incorporating connectivity and density without homes feeling like they are on top of one another. Overall, a “cool solution” to an often challenging problem.
