Design Statement | The challenge in this community was to deliver four ranch plans in roughly the same size with enough variation to appeal to multiple buyer profiles. The solution was to design each plan to deliver Arizona ranch living that is at once casual and elegant. Rather than the traditional front entry, this plan uses a covered side porch to lead to the front door. The angled entry hall uses natural materials and neutral colors to continue the desert theme. The kitchen/great room combination creates a contemporary feel, while the vanishing corner in the separate dining space make for a dramatic spot for entertaining.
Using all of the lot, the side yard offers a covered outdoor room with fireplace. The use of the same flooring and ceiling material creates a seamless transition from inside to outside. Subtle desert hues create an elegant retreat in the light-filled master suite. Hardscape continues in the rear yard, both to preserve water and to create another gathering space.
Judges’ Comments | This home offers an interesting resolution to the challenge of a side-entry home, and judges appreciated the strong vernacular elevation. The indoor/outdoor connections are spectacular, and the strong plan elevates this house.
