Bathroom Remodeling Done Right

The clients on this remodel project – an empty nester couple – decided they did not want to move from the home they loved, but understood this meant updating their Master Suite. In addition to upgrading both the form and functionality, this project presented additional challenges associated with the remodeling.

Both spouses were passionate about the design of the Master Bath, but insisted on their own privacy while being able to share the space at the same time. They also desired a contemporary, open design for the bathroom, but a more traditional design for the bedroom.

Working closely with the clients, the remodeler created a design based upon the client’s vision. This design included flooring, cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, lighting, plumbing, electrical and hardware. To provide a sense of privacy, both glass enclosures were sandblasted to 5’ above the floor. A custom built vanity with built-in clothes hampers was created and a custom designed ceiling trey to accentuate the skylight and provide extra height within the Bathroom was installed. They also installed custom made glass tile as the vanity backsplash, on the walls in the toilet room, and in the shower. Built-in custom shower niches to hold shampoo, conditioner and soaps were included in the shower and they moved every plumbing fixture from the original Master Bath design to accomplish the client’s priorities. New walnut flooring was installed throughout the hallway, closets and master bedroom.

In order to create a contemporary feel they design the space to be light and airy but the walnut wood flooring ties the contemporary bathroom appearance to the more traditional design in the master bedroom. The result, in the words of the client, “our architect/contractor was able to do things others told me would be impossible to do. He always communicated with me, so I knew when people were coming. His trade-contractors all knew what they were doing, and cleaned up daily. The Master Bath is exactly what I wanted. I am happy every day I use it.”

The thoughtful design earned this project team a 2017 BALA Platinum award for Bath $35,001 & Over Per Unit.
