The 2014 Green Awards Overall Winner for Remodeling: Single-Family Whole-House over $100,000, Preserving our Environmental Heritage in Heritage Hills, submitted by Paradise Found Construction, LLC, is a true success story in green remodeling that also maintains the original aesthetic of the home and neighborhood.

Heritage Hills - 2With improved energy efficiency measures and overall usage reduction efforts, the homeowners are saving 36.2% on annual energy costs and are enjoying a healthier, greener home. The home has a new HERS score of 59 (down from an original 98), a reduction in the home’s energy use by over 40%, and a reduction in the home’s water use by over 40%. Just a few of the green measures implemented to achieve these successes are seen below:

Green building and site features

  • Heritage Hills - 4Wood-burning fireplace sealed with a direct-vent natural gas fireplace insert
  • Original and inefficient windows replaced with PVC/Vinyl double-hung double-pane energy efficient windows
  • All ductwork sealed to prevent costly leakage
  • Attic and crawlspace insulated
  • Oversized AC compressor and coil replaced with smaller components to increase efficiency and to control indoor and crawlspace humidity
  • No-VOC paints and hardwood floor finishes
  • WaterSense fixtures installed in the powder room, master bath, and kitchen
  • Increased interior day-lighting by painting all interior walls with lighter colors to increase sunlight reflectivity and by strategically increasing the size of windows to bring in more natural light as needed
  • Old cabinets, vanities, electrical and plumbing fixtures, doors, and hardware donated to Habitat for Humanity ReStores
  • Off-site recycling of all construction waste at a Certified Recycling Waste Site
