A custom residential house in one of the nation’s most historic towns, the design respects the traditional neighborhood while creating unique and memorable design moments. Care was taken to blend into the environment and preserve specimen trees and the expansive views of conservation land, and to tactically orient the house towards the road curvature. The design concept focused on seamlessly integrating interior and exterior spaces as well as maintaining a balance between traditional formalism and modern playfulness. The client requested an extensive ground-floor program and a modestly scaled house, which required a creative solution to diminish massing and volume of the second-floor program. Multiple access points to outdoor terraces and porches create a seamless flow for entertaining family and friends.
