This historic rehabilitation includes the 9-story Hotel Chisca built in 1913 and an adjacent annex constructed in 1961. By the 1990s, the building was abandoned, and in 2002, the hotel was listed as one of Tennessee’s ten most-endangered historic properties. The team’s goal was to guide the rehabilitation in such a way that it stitched the gap between two thriving areas, by building a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly streetscape. The first floor, which was once the hotel’s main lobby with 17-foot ceilings, houses lofted apartment units, an event space, and two successful restaurants. An elevated amenity space on the second floor transforms the indoor ballroom into an outdoor gathering space. The 1913 and 1961 addition are joined by a two-story connector that houses a club room, lobby, coffee bar, leasing office, and fitness center.
