Located in a 12×19 master bedroom is a 3 deep space, clad in mirrors, which opens to reveal an 8×12, his-and-hers closet with shelves and hanging rods in the doors. This space-saving innovation effectively triples the functional space in the room while not growing the overall size of the home. This hinged-wall system is ideal for urban living, as well as home owners wishing to downsize without losing the overall functional space available.
Another unique feature of this closet is in the patented hinge mechanism. It was designed to bear the weight of the door and contents while allowing it to float over the floor rather than being set on a track or to have wheels for support. This completely conceals the existence of the folded space when closed and provides storage solutions in a compact space.
The design is not limited to closet space. It can be applied throughout the home to function as a pantry, wine cellar, home office, or craft room, adding to the usable space of any room. The goal of this project was to live large in a small space which was effectively executed with the use of this patented design.
