A divided garage and setback for two bays strengthen the architectural presentation. A focal arch, low roof pitch, and rafter tails express the classic Rancho Santa Fe style as seen in architect Lilian Rice’s noted works. The exterior’s metal railing and dramatic openings are reprised in key interior spaces, which also present the bold geometry and materials of a progressive contemporary design.
Courtyard design incorporates a series of discovery points keyed to indoor/outdoor connectivity, starting with a low arrival wall and progressing from the loggia and focal court through the porch entry to the great room and outdoor living beyond. Views and light gain for all four sides of the envelope enhance the seamless connection of outdoors with interior spaces, with elevated windows assuring privacy for retreat rooms.
The ground-level master suite and guest casita address maturing households; the casita’s optional suite accommodates diverse, extended-stay scenarios. Overlook views, high windows, and open circulation benefit second-level retreats, which are further enhanced by en suite design, a shared optional loft, and the optional library.
