Nexton

Nexton is a 5,000-acre, mixed-use community in the heart of Charleston’s growth corridor. At inception, it was intended as an eco-friendly and sustainable community that improves the lives of those who live and work here; and the commuters and guests that pass through. Nexton’s road network is engineered to take cars off local roads and onto the highway by way of Nexton Parkway, which was developed via a public-private partnership. Storm water is also a top priority, so the builders oversized Nexton‘s storm drainage systems and added capacity to serve adjacent tracts. Many ponds serve as focal features for parks, while at the same time handling excess water responsibly. These ponds also have native and drought-resistant vegetation.

Nexton was also the first in Berkeley County to use shielded LED lighting designed to reduce light pollution and preserve views of the night sky. Nexton’s Class-A office buildings are National Green Building Standard Gold certified; several multifamily projects are LEED Silver-Certified, and all homes are subject to EcoSelect Certified standards. A third of the land is preserved as open space and wetlands. Nexton’s dedicated town forester ensures the health and maintenance of the greenery and wildlife that co-exist with the community.
