Summer Ideas for Outdoor Living

Although mid-July may suggest that Summer is half over, it’s never too late to make arrangements to spend more time outdoors and enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine. While many may say that a pool would be their first go-to option for relaxing and cooling off, because  it can be a pricy one that requires sufficient lawn area and long-term maintenance plans, there are a number of other options that can create an enjoyable outdoor experience for homeowners this summer:

Cabana

An open cabana or gazebo can extend living areas and provide shade and shelter from the elements. Adding a seating area, picnic table or television can create a functional outdoor space to gather with family and friends or relax alone.

Bringing in furniture that caters to your needs, whether it is a hammock or a swing to create some fun, or an outdoor couch and a few chairs can ensure a comfortable space to relax and linger.  A bar area can also be a nice addition, depending on how the space is intended to be used.

Barbeque Grill

Creating an outdoor kitchen/grilling station can be a terrific addition to a backyard. Whether it is covered with a vent hood to eliminate smoke or a free-standing station, care must be taken to place it in a good area in terms of wind and to avoid the harsh sun.  It should also be located away from the dwelling and any other structures.

Water Features

Fountains, mini waterfalls, ponds, and other water features are highly desirable, as the moving water creates a soothing sound can be mesmerizing, and when lit up at night, can add magical moving reflections. Moving water also has the added benefit of drowning out unwanted sounds – like adjacent road noise.

Outdoor Movie Theater

Nothing beats watching an outdoor movie on a lovely summer night. This budget-friendly option can be a fun and easy addition to any back, front, or side yard. All that is needed is a projector, screen, and speakers, along with a few cushions or  picnic blankets.  Don’t forget the popcorn!

Decorative Lights

Lighting creates the mood for any space. Adding decorative light fixtures to your outdoor spaces ensure they are usable day and night . When choosing, the sky is the limit, so whether it is cozy romantic lights like candles and floor lamps, or string lights to create a starry vibe, each option will bring a different atmosphere.  Because of the ease of switching out most light fixtures, there is no need to limit yourself to just one choice.
