[Summer Series] Outdoor Living: Outdoor Space

The rugged desert setting inspired this Desert Modern home.  The views of native flora and canyon walls are amazing from sunrise to sunset. Outdoor living is, therefore, a priority. The multi-level patio, covered in porcelain tile, was designed for contemplating and entertaining. Notice that the four elemental categories — earth, wind, water, and fire — are satisfied. The covered rear patio extends across the home, its cantilevered roof providing unobstructed views with a single pair of inverted  L-shaped steel supports.

A few steps down, the negative-edge pool and an outdoor kitchen are framed with natural boulders from the site. One unique entertainment feature: a TV that pops up from underground storage and swivels 360 degrees. From a sustainability perspective, the space takes a xeriscape approach to blend new landscape elements with boulders from the site to match natural desert surroundings.
