Celebrate National Home Remodeling Month: Buchanan Owner Bathroom Remodel

The client has been in a wheelchair for many years. He and his wife live in a beautiful single-story home near the beach and have no interest in moving. Unfortunately, their home was becoming more and more difficult to maneuver within, and the task of daily activities was becoming increasingly difficult.

The primary shower and bathroom were small, and getting into the shower and onto the toilet were becoming close to impossible. Also, due to the existing standard cabinetry, the client had no ability to wheel up to his vanity sink.

The remodeler, Aging-In-Place Remodeling, went in and completely remodeled the primary bathroom. Walls were removed to create more open space, and doorways were widened to provide better access. A roll-in shower was designed and installed with many features for accessibility: no-threshold entry, multiple grab bars, handheld showerhead within easy reach, niches for access to shower products, and more.

The toilet has been elevated for easier transferring from a wheelchair, and a bidet was added to help facilitate personal hygiene. Custom cabinetry and the vanity were designed specifically to the client and his needs. Custom automated mahogany barn doors were installed, opening and closing with the swipe of a hand or by using a remote. The team was able to implement all of these accessible features while still providing visually pleasing aesthetics that add value to all aspects of the home.

The remodeling company prides itself on using the latest technology and innovations to assist all of its aging-in-place clientele, and this project highlights how a team can blend innovative products with design to create revolutionary spaces for homeowners. The clients now have the master bathroom they always dreamed of.
