Design Statement | Norton Commons includes two mixed-use neighborhoods and a hamlet with 2,880 units on a 660-acre greenfield site. The first neighborhood is complete and includes a full range of housing types, from single-family detached homes to apartments.
Multi-family and office buildings with ground-floor retail have been integrated into the neighborhood and a central square is surrounded by mixed-use buildings with ground-floor retail and live/work units. The developer has done an excellent job programming the public realm to facilitate opportunities for community to thrive.
Judges’ Comments | The master plan looks nice and feels authentic, with a wide variety of architecture and housing types, fully activated amenities, and great streetscapes.

Design Statement | Brambleton still looks as fresh and relevant today as it did when it opened 20 years ago. The developer has been flexible and able to design the community to meet the ever-changing lifestyles and consumer demands. Builders provide relevant, modern home designs as new neighborhoods open.
Home to approximately 6,000 families, Brambleton is a relatively large community, yet it manages to preserve the friendliness found in small towns. The tree-lined streets, parks, ability to walk to a town center with more than 50 retailers, and community schools, coupled with outdoor concerts and events, makes this community one of the most desirable neighborhoods. Connecting the neighborhoods by sidewalks and trails creates an all-accessible design.
