NAHB’s Best in Green (BIG) awards have moved!

Do you build green? Did you know you can be recognized for your outstanding green accomplishments through three of NAHB’s award programs?

For 2019, green categories have been moved to three existing award programs.

  1. The Best in American Living Awards offers four categories for green homes and communities: (category 11) green detached home, built for sale; (cat. 20) green one-of-a-kind custom or spec home; (cat. 38) green entire home remodel; and (cat. 53) green community. Green applicants will be judged both on the quality of the design (exteriors, interiors, floor plans, etc.) and the green features. The deadline to apply is September 1; contact Alexandra Isham with questions.
  2. The Best of 55+ Housing Awards offers one category: Best Green Home for 55+ New Construction. Applicants will be judged on both the 55+ and green features of their project. The deadline to apply is August 24, and you may contact Lynn Basso with any questions.
  3. The Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards offers one category as well: Best in Green Market-Rate Multifamily Community. Applications will be reviewed both for their multifamily merits and green features. The deadline to apply is August 23. Crystal Jackson is available to answer any questions about the program.

In each of the above programs, green building concepts refers to both the structure and the use of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition. Green building concepts often earn certifications such as National Green Building Standard (NGBS) or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

It is not required that your project be green certified, but you are encouraged to include information if your project has achieved a green certification.

You can enter all three programs through the NAHB awards portal. You do not need to be a member to apply, but you will need to create an NAHB login so that you can save your application to your profile and return to complete it over the course of the summer.
