Located in the woods of Auburn, Ala., this project takes advantage of an irregular, sloping site by locating the home overlooking a natural valley.
The form of the house is an arrangement of interlocking interior spaces expressed as a simple gable form with additive elements.
The design features a modest attitude towards both interior and exterior finishes featuring corrugated metal, cypress, steel, painted glass, and fiber-cement siding.
The site for this residence encouraged a sequence of spaces that opened up to specific views of both the interior and the exterior.
BALA judges commented, “Traditional forms but very cool”; “tasteful”; “charming”, “plays with what’s normal.”
