Home of the Week: Dollhouse

The design concept was to make our Pinckney, Mich. Home of the Week feel like a real-life dollhouse, which was done by up-scaling the elements and creating whimsical curves and forms.

This home is sited in an existing lake community on a very tight infill lot, where the waterfront is only 50 feet from the building’s edge; from the interior, this gives one the illusion of sitting on top of the water. Thus it was very important to maximize the space and make sure that all of the important main living spaces had a view of the waterfront.

A very bright and bold color palette, both inside and out, adds to the dollhouse concept.

The kitchen is open to the great room and wide open to the screened porch by the use of a collapsible, glass-door system.

It’s a whimsical play on traditional form, scale, and proportion that can be incorporated into any established architectural style.
