Inspired by Eichler homes of yesteryear, the owner bought this 1960’s ranch home on a golf course with the intention of turning it into their new, tropical dream home. The existing 1,989 square foot house did not maximize the benefits of the site, warm climate, daylighting opportunities, or Back-bay views.

The remodeler began by keeping the original garage intact, then positioned a new 2nd garage for some fortitude to address the adjacent busy 5- way intersection. Once past the front gate, at what was once a breezeway, everything is private and site lines have been created that lead through the indoor spaces, towards the rear patio/back-bay. On the site of a previously unusable side yard, the remodeler added a media room, office, and side patio, expanded the kitchen, and created a great room that completely opens up to blend with the patio.

The pool is solar heated and passive solar shading is used throughout this now 4,000 square foot home. Year-round patios blend with the interior spaces while providing indirect natural light. Interior and exterior materials and furnishings are used interchangeably, with lush landscaping and warm wood floors and accents to warm the simplicity of the stucco and concrete. The redesigned great room has ample built-in storage to hide clutter and a clean, minimalistic look. The polished concrete floors, exposed beams and steel structural supports reflect the couple’s shared love of a modern, airy aesthetic.
